The Being and Doing Well story

Our story began with Director, Corinne Bolstad studying NLP, hypnotherapy and solution focused therapy in 1993. As a rangitahi (young person) this was pretty revolutionary for her world view. There was no turning back.

The seeds of Being and Doing Well Limited were born.

Our company was formed in January 2020.

What else happened in between 1993 and 2020?  Study: During the 1990s Corinne also studied psychology, philosophy, cognitive science and linguistics as part of a Bachelor of Science degree at University. However, none of these academic disciplines explained the richness of individual human experience to her in the way that her NLP studies had.  This combination of study and experience did motivate Corinne to pursue a passion for understanding human behaviour and experience. As well as fuelling an ambition to help others. Experience: From 2001 through 2004 a counselling practice in both Wellington and Lower Hutt provided Corinne experience working one to one with individuals. During this period she qualified as an NLP Trainer. Included in her portfolio of professional qualifications by this time was certification as an Instructor of Transforming Communication.  Wellbeing, health and safety: Following the Canterbury earthquakes in 2010 and 2011 Corinne took a natural career step into occupational health and safety. Through several roles Corinne directed her passion for helping others towards limiting workplace harm. Community: Following the devastating earthquakes Corinne also took up community governance roles.  Her own geographical community was laid waste by the disaster. This had followed years of economic decline. These volunteer community roles initiated learning about community-lead development, community resilience and capacity building. This in turn lead Corinne to study the professional practice of Engagement.   Engagement practice:  Engagement practice treats community members as experts with equal status to local or central government agency representatives. When this approach is effectively resourced and operated well it has amazing results for community members, agency representatives and elected representatives.  Engagement practice can be applied, by employers, to engagement and consultation with workers. New Zealand's Workplace Health and Safety Legislation requires effective consultation about risks and risk management, with impacted workers. Engagement practice offers much to this area of work.  Corinne retains a passion for supporting communities to thrive. Communities that thrive are great places for individuals to work and great places for individuals to be well and do well.  Return to study: During the Covid-19 pandemic, in 2020 and throughout 2021, Corinne repeated her earlier training in NLP, hypnotherapy and coaching practice. Advances in research about human relationships, neuroscience and other areas provided a much fuller basis for the NLP and other approaches learnt earlier in her career.  Our story so far: A combination of this history and experience, while managing her own resilience, work-life balance, and wellbeing has taught Corinne the key ingredients for being and doing well. Her mission is to share these fundamentals in a way that enriches the lives of individuals, their families, and communities.  Being and Doing Well was born in 2020 to begin that mission. And the story continues. We welcome you to be part of that story! Let us support you to be well and do well.  March 2024: Watch this space for new chapters in our story, coming soon.
